Jordi Savall and the Great Astronomer

On the occasion of the 10th jubilee edition of the Misteria Paschalia Festival 2013 in Cracow the eminent gambist and conductor Jordi Savall with Hesperion XXI and Capella Reial de Catalunya presented his programme Copernicus for the first time. The idea of the concert was based on the life and work of Mikołaj Kopernik and the intention was to portray the Western and Eastern Europe at the turn of the centuries through music of that time. Savall arranged the programme mostly of the Old-Polish music written by Sebastian z Felsztyna, Jerzy Liban and Wacław z Szamotuł but complemented it with the masterpieces of the European Polyphony of Josquin des Prez and Heinrich Isaac. On the 22th of September 2018 the Copernicus programme was presented again after five years during the 39. Festival in Ambronay in the Ambronay Abbey, famous for its exceptional acoustic. This time the regular singers of the Capella Reial de Catalunya: Lluís Vilamajó, Marco Scavazza and Pieter Stas were joined by the Polish singers picked out by Maestro Savall: Aldona Bartnik, Ewa Puchalska and Karol Kozłowski.
